I need a new HDD for storage whats the difference between these two besides 1tb in storage? What would be the more reliable pick? Is there much gain in speed?

If you're looking for a drive just to store data get the Samsung, it's more energy efficient.

EXCEPT...Seagate is shipping their own shitty green drives instead of the reliable Samsung 2 tb drive. CHECK THE PICTURE. This came up in a thread about a week and a half ago. I had to say WTF when Seagate buys Samsung and ditches this popular and reliable drive in favor of their own shitty stuff...and won't tell the consumers...

Unfortunately, the WD Black or RE4 is the best bet for reliability and speed.

Wow can't believe they dumped the functional Samsung tech for their own shitty stuff. Guess I can rule out Samsung in the future.

Personally, I'm staying away from the 'green' drives... I've been reading of too many problems with them... like dying prematurely. Really, in this day of merger mania, I'm almost too scared to buy any drive over 1TB. Hitachi, my personal favorite, now belongs to WD (my other favorite) but it always seems like the worst comes out after a merger.

My next HDD will probably be one of the Hitachi single-platter 1TB drives for my HTPC build. I have my fingers crossed...

Never understood the whole "green drive" thing. Take the slowest thing in the computer for the last 5 decades by a factor of a million, and make it 50% slower, just to save 10 cents a year on the electric bill...

Good job, now the computer is on twice as long taking forever to do anything.
