stopping spam on email server

We currently use MDaemon 6.x (outdated) as our Email Server Software for a small office of ~70 employees. Incoming spam has been getting worse and worse, or maybe more appropriately not caught and sent through to the end users.

The program has Bayesian and Heuristic spam filtering built in, but the Bayesian has always been turned off for fear of false postives I guess.

What are people out there using to help stop the flood of spam coming into the server from getting to the end users? Are there additional 3rd party software out there that anyone would recommend?

Well, one very important thing to have in an anti-spam product is open relay blocking. That wipes out a HUGE percentage of the spam you'll get. It's also very safe because the only time a legitimate business would be an open relay would be if they chose to be one or because their network admin has no idea wtf they're doing.

We use Microsoft at work, so I can't recommend any specific product......just thought I'd give you one more thing to look for.

MDaemon allows for ordb.org, spamcop.net etc and are set up with those 2... anymore out there I should be adding?

what you need to do to stop spam....

1. Find the bas***d who emailed them.
2. Get a gun.
3. Find his house.
4. Give him one bullet for every g'd@m spam mail he sent.
5. Spam has now stopped.

That's only one spam! There's much more than one spammer in this world.
