Is there anyway to stop the certificate/install program popup in internet explorer? I clicked on "Yes" on one earlier because I was in a hurry, and it took forever to get the spyware uninstalled, and even have ad-watch and microsoft spyware running in the background. Is there anyway to just get these from even poping up? Im using XP Pro with SP1

I'm not sure if SP1 had the pop-up blocker built in; either way there's no reason not to upgrade.

Or (obligatory answer) use Firefox.

Thanks. But I dont like Firefox =) And it's not the type of popup a blocker would block. It's the built in IE security box type thing.

I think in your security settings there are always three levels, yes, ask and no, methinks it'll be set to ask atm, so just set it to no. but I'm not 100% sure about that, it's worth a try tho.

Go to "Tools", "Internet Options". Click the Security tab, and select the Internet zone. Click Custom Level and find the option "Download signed ActiveX controls" and set it to disable.

Firefox doesn't get these pop-ups in the first place.

Is he talking about a security certificate or an ActiveX control? They are two different things.

Use a Limited account and that problem will be fixed properly.

Why do you want to ignore a cetificate pop-up (if in fact that's what you're talking about)? Typically you would get that if the name of the website that you typed in doesn't match the name on the cert, which could potentially be a Bad Thing.

Ok its the Security Warning box. "Do you want to install and run "PLEASE CLICK YES to install our Free Browser Enhancements. This file has been" signed on 5/10/2005 4:00 AM and distributed by: Pacerd, LTD "

Those type of box's. How do I disable those? Thanks

Put the people on Limited accounts, aka Restricted User if you're on Win2000/NT or in a domain. Problem solved. They won't see the ActiveX software-installer popups, and even if they could, or if they downloaded a stub installer manually, it still would not work. Limited/RU accounts can't install stuff.

Im the only one using the computer, and it would be more of a pain to have to logoff my main and onto another account just to surf the web. There has to be an eassier way than this?

There is. Make your main account a Limited-class account. Leave some other account as an Admin account for those occasions when you need Admin-level powers. Agreed with the comment above, though, you do want to see certificate alerts.
