Stopping a low level format???

What happens if you have to stop a low level format on a WD drive? I knew it would take a while but might not be able to wait four and a half hours before I have to leave. This is a brand new drive. Did fdisk and after reboot it comes back failure to read. It wont accept another fdisk. Was told to do a low level then fdisk again. Any help really appreciated.

LL Format is pretty serious stuff . . . normally not done by users. Once started, it would not be good to terminate it early, unless it is a non-destructive type such as Spin Rite 5.0.

I usually allow at least 12 hours for a 20 GB drive. The bigger the drive, the longer it takes. :0

Maybe you should just leave it running and go. I usually do that in the afternoon and then it is ready by morning. 🙂

Why can't you just leave it running. It's not like leaving the oven on, unless you have an AMD chip and consider AMD's chip temps a danger to your property.:Q
