i mean, it just sounds so stupid that i cant see what makes people start in the first place.

Curiosity? Maybe the person's parents smoked when they were kids and got them addicted or something. When someone grows up with the idea that smoking is okay or that their parents don't care about them enough not to smoke around them, smoking must be safe and makes them curious about why their parents like to do it or whatever.

just because alcohol is legal, doesn't make it automatically better for you. I would argue that, in anecdotal evidence (read being around college students, that drink AND smoke, for 6+ years) alcohol is worse for you than pot. At least in the short term effect it has on a person and their health.
