Man.

I want the opticalless version with only 1 HD at a cost below that of the one with 1 HD and an optical drive.

IMO - Perfect HTPC.

Me too, and I have absolutely 0 use for it. I have a perfectly functional Mac Mini (GMA950 C2D) model running a web server right now...and too many other computers to have any valid use for this.

Maybe if they pushed the Apple TV front end into an app you could run on your new unibody Mini... :D

+1, they need to change Front Row into 'Apple TV mode' so you can turn it off/on while still keeping OS X in the background.

You might as well get a base Macbook and leave the lid down.
Pay twice as much for the same specs in a larger package?
Honestly, other than the look/form factor it's a pretty sub-standard offering for the price.
Well, that's the whole point of a Mac Mini. Do you not understand why laptops cost more than desktops with the same specs?
engadget may be wrong on no power brick. The two prong input is clearly a DC input or AC input with no ground which I've never seen for computers.
Look in the photo. There's a wavy line "~" above the power input indicating AC.

I'm getting one to use as a HTPC, base model will do just fine to run plex / xbmc. No need for a blu-ray or a bigger disk, I stream everything from my NAS

Only Apple could get away with selling a computer with two year old hardware at twice the average market price, and then have their fans thank them for it because the case looks cool :)

That's why I love their stock way more than most of their products.

Take whatever money you'd blow on any Mac, buy that amount of Apple stock, and in just ten years you'll be sitting on enough cash to buy 50 or more of their latest 'iWhatever' (that 10 years from now will be based on the hardware of 8 years from now).

The laptops are usually cutting edge tech when they first come out. The latest generation was behind the curve this time though.

And the iPhone is definitely cutting edge tech. AppleTV, Mini, maybe the Mac Pro, not so much.

I got one yesterday to use as a HTPC. It is really small and looks absolutely stunning. I put plex on it with the binary that support video playback hardware decoding and it runs like a champ. Very happy with it
