Jon Kyl Berates Obama For Focus On Middle Class

President Barack Obama should stop talking about the middle class because it turns people against rich Americans, who should be embraced as the Michael Jordans of the U.S. economy, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) said Monday.

Declaring that the use of the phrase "middle class" is "misguided and wrong and even dangerous," Kyl argued in a Senate floor speech that Obama is "spreading economic resentment [that] weakens American values" and ignoring "the uniquely meritocratic basis of our society."

Anything Kyl ever said "was not intended to be a factual statement."

The fact that the phrase "middle class" keeps coming up in the news that it is declining is what should be berated.

The only ones "spreading economic resentment [that] weakens American values" is Republican Senator Kyl and the rest of his minions.

The wealthiest Americans are spreading economic resentment when they flaunt their status symbols in the faces of hard working people who are not so well off. Don't forget the a$$holes who send as much of their wealth to offshore banks in order to hide it from the government and to avoid paying their share of the taxes. They are very unpatriotic and the divisive activities of the 1% actually does more to harm the social fabric of the nation. (Hint - Mitt Romney happens to be one of these.)

Ya, they do it all the time here. They have rich parades and drive their Rolls Royces up and down the street.

They have a whole television network that celebrates them as "job creators" and Senator Jon Kyle who says they are "Michael Jordans"

Being the "Michael Jordan" of anything means having immense talent but an even greater will to succeed and a greater still work ethic.

None of those are requirements for being rich.

None of those are requirements for being rich.

And in todays society none of those guaranty you will get rich, or even be middle class.

And there is a whole network that denigrates them and labels them a tyrants that are pillaging the country. What's your point?

You all seem to have a problem with the rich but have no problem buying the products they sell.

I once quoted my self in a sig as saying 'kill the middle class once and for all, vote republican' or something like that. This guy pretty much confirms what the GOP is all about.

The GOP's entire agenda focuses on supporting the very wealthy, even at the expense of everyone else. Anything else they pretend to care about is merely window dressing designed to get votes.

Any "support" given to the wealthy has never cost you a dime.

I think of myself as barely above poverty level and and not quite making median wage whatever that is. What do you call that? Starving Clerk Class?
