Stop rope fraying

I have lots of rope which i want to reduce to 2 metre lengths but i want them to last so how can i treat/wrap the ends to stop them coming appart?
It's natural rope so i can't melt it.
I was thinking dipping them in something but whats suitable?

I've tried so far:
Insulating tape
PTFE tape
cotten
Self amalgamating tape

I was thinking of heat shrink sleaving but it's hard to get hold of where I live :-S

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
