<< I'm not going to edit because i'm standing up for whats right. >>
How is advocating piracy standing up for what's right?
<< Microsoft isn't making any money on this. It's a beta so the more people have it
the better the final version will be. >>
That is patently nonsense, just passing the beta around isn't helping MS at all.
Most of the people using the beta don't report back problems as it is,
and all the warez kiddies who get it will strenously avoid any other
official contact with MS, so no feedback gets to them that way.
DefBringer2, real beta testers actually look for problems in the software and report
those back to the company in the hope that the problems will be fixed before the
software is officially released. Claiming that everyone getting their hands on
it is "beta testing" the software shows gross ignorance of the entire QA process.
While spreading the preview around doesn't neccesarily hurt MS, and may help
spread understanding of XP among end-users, it certainly doesn't help the evolution
of the product. Any report coming from a previewer or (unlikely) pirate, is
not going to be of much value to developers, because along with that report they
need to have background information about that users system and their computer usage
to better try to recreate the condition in which the bug appeared. It is next to
impossible to fix some bugs if you can't even figure out what caused the problem
in the first place. That is why software companies keep separate groups of
beta testers around, who have the training and experience to give consistent
reports on things that need to be fixed.
