After seeing the ad for the new Alienware Area 51 system in Maxium PC... my cousin is trying to talk his wife into leting him get it.. here are the specs. If anyone has the may issue let me know if my specs are correct.

-P4 3.0 800 FSB
- 1 gig of pc3200
- 120 8 meg HD
- Radeon 9800
- DVD / CDROM

I think the price is 2300 - 2400, which too me sounds pretty damn high. He is upgrading his PII - 400 and is trying to get the absolute best he can get. Could you guys build a much better system for about 2K? I am just trying to save him so money... Thanks guys

Thats pretty much what i told him.. i said even to look at a dell when they have like the 2.66 for 400 bucks after rebate.. that would leave him 1600 to upgrade ram/ whatever else he wanted.

that is mighty expensive, btw I dun think they can get the 3.0ghz because of recent bug intel found, they may have to settle for a slower 3.06ghz p4.

Do you guys have any idea on when the 3.0 800 FSB chip is coming out.. because i know that will definlty make the 3.06 533 drop like a stone.. he is just hell bent on geting this alienware and i think he wife would much rather get something less.

By saying that, the responsibility of building such a system rests upon you. He would expect you to make it for him. Not only that, he was also ask you for tech support.

Yet another way to make money. Any computer I build gets 3 months free tech support, but after that they are charged.

I would just let him buy the damned thing, unless you want him calling you EVERY TIME he has a question or problem.

I stopped building computers for friends and family because supporting them was nearly a full-time job.

Oh trust me, he wont be needing any tech support... he has been doing this for a LONGGG time.

The reason the alienware is not at the price yet is that in May, it will drop once they have the new chip.

Then why is he dumb enough to purchase an overpriced prebuilt machine rather than build one himself?
