Stop me if this is ridiculous...

I took the S out for a drive yesterday. It's always fun but some of my focus was drawn away from the downshifting and apex-hitting of it all, toward potential police car hiding spots. I got a ticket recently and wasn't in the mood to get a second one.

Stupid civilized society and its stupid laws :|

Anyhow, when I returned home, the thought of auto-crosses in parking lots crossed my mind and I pondered getting into that. Then, I recalled that land is ridiculously cheap here in Central Texas. Then, I grabbed some lunch and took a nap. Then, I started thinking how much it would cost to build my own scale model race track.

This would be the plan:
1) Buy about an acre of land
2) Either pave a big rectangle of it and rearrange cones depending on my mood or pave it in this shape--whichever ends up being cheaper
3) Buy one or more go-karts
4) ???
5) Sell the land, track, and karts, two years down the line at not too much of a loss.

Okay, your thoughts?

Also, first one to name the shape I mentioned is a winner - Text

I don't think it would be rediculous... I think it would be awesome. I think the biggest problem you could potentially face is zoning laws. What if someone buys a lot near your's and intends to build a house on it... I doubt they'll appreciate you racing around your track right next to their house. It may require you to purchase more land as sort of a "buffer."

Also if you intend to let other people use it, I think you'd also run into some legal issues. But you could probably get around that by having a lawyer write up a little agreement for you to have people sign before they drive on your property saying you're not responsible for anything, even if the ground opens up and swallows their car and spits their intenstines back out onto the track. 😀

Then if you let other people use it, you'd have the environmentalists getting pissy about the possibly non-emissions legal cars creating air pollution there... and maybe the douchebag who flips his car over cracks his oil pan and 5 or 6 quarts of oil leak out into the ground polluting the ground water...

Yeah, I have some money but if it costs a lot more than it's worth, I'll just take my chances with the fuzz 😉.

Anyone have any idea how much an acre of land costs? Or how much it costs to pave this much land? Or how much go-karts cost?

Or how much someone would be willing to buy a turn-key, scale model race track whenever I'm done playing with it?

Jeff7181: Heck no I wouldn't let anyone else play on it 😉. I fully intend to be that old man chasing kids off my race track with a stick 😉

Heh heh...So if I grow one row of carrots on the edge of my track, can I technically call myself a farm? 😉

Texas has no mountains so I couldn't do that. And building a scale model mountain? That's crazy! 😛

BTW, I'm surprised no one's blurted out my shape yet 🙂
