I am about to purchase the following components from Newegg.com:

Epox EP-8K7A+RAID - $139
Gainward GeForce 3 PowerPack Golden Sample - $329
AMD T-bird 1.4Ghz 266Mhz Bus - $107
2x IBM 20GB 7200rpm deskstar 60GXP - $170
Plextor 16x/10x/40x Plexwriter -$163
Pioneer 16x DVD Slot Load - $60
Hercules Game Theater xp sound - $129
Arctic Silver Thermal Paste - $6
Thermaltake Dragon ORB3 - $30

Total with shipping = $1133

Crucial.com

512mb PC2100 DDR RAM - $72 free shipping

Microbarn.com

Antec SX1040B(black) w/ 2 extra case fans - $155 includes shipping

Anybody have any opinions, rants or raves about these components? Good deal? Should I wait for Palomino, nForce, GF3 Ultra?? I've been out of the loop for a while and will be building a new computer between now and Thanksgiving. Was thinking about doing this now while prices are so low.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks good to me. Hope your not running this on a 15" CRT monitor with a max resolution of 800 x 600. :p

I have a Sony trinitron g500 21" now, but I've been thinking about getting the FW900 24" widescreen that they have. Expensive, but if I can get a decent reman then I may be very tempted.

Any other thoughts on heatsinks?? I chose the dragonorb 3 b/c it was one of the best at newegg.com and I wanted to keep most of the parts from there (better shipping :p)

Thanks for the comments.

I currently have a Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard that I will bring over from my poor old system. I have grown very fond of the feel of the Logitech cordless devices and will stick with it. I chose to purchase everything from Newegg, so total shipping was 35 bucks. Helps to purchase everything from one place.

(a) Your sound card Hercules Game Theater XP, u said is $130 something
WTF is wrong with you? It's only $103 OEM edition
Retail doesnt do much but give u maybe a game or two and a nice box
I mean if u want the bundle software games go ahead but hey with the extra $30 i could get something even better

Where's your monitor?

Read above, I already have a monitor.

About the sound card:

I did not see the OEM version, as I was just putting together a list real fast.
No need to get all hostile about it :disgust:

Unless you are planning to o/c, then I think you should go with the ECS K7S5A mobo. Newegg has it for $70 shipped.

K7S5A Review

If you plan to watch a lot of DVDs - ATi is the only way to go. The difference is like night and day.

Switch the Plextor with the Lite-On CDRW. Save some money for nearly identical performance.

Switch the case for the Enlight 300W model from Newegg for $65 shipped. $100 for looks is a lot if you ask me.

One thing I am curious about: Is there a big difference between the Hercules Game Theatre XP ($100), Creative Labs Live 5.1 ($30), and the Aureal Vortex2 ($15)?
