Stop Error Problems

A guy that I know from the college here is having a problem of getting a stop error upon bootup and has a lot of important academic documents on the HD. Would a repair allow me to temporarily fix it until I can perform a clean install after getting his documents? Thanks for reading and thinking....

Before you try anything, boot into safe mode and see if you can perform a system restore.

If the file system is FAT, you could try backing up the programs in DOS mode. If its NTFS, then a repair/reinstall should not make matters any worse.

No go for safe mode.
