Stop Error in W2k

Greetings All,

Just installed W2k on my new system using a shuttle rev3.1 motherboard and a 30GB ATA 100 Maxtor HD. The BIOS version is e9. Everything was working fine until I installed sp2. Now I get a "Stop Error - HD Failure. Try to run a virus checking utility, or run chkdsk /t/r at a command prompt"

I know that sp2 fixes some ATA 100 issues. Could I possibly need to enable / disable something in BIOS?

Any ideas?
