A ZDNet story to day quotes a Osaka (Japan)police initiative - using 3G phones to stop crime. Since a lot of 3G phones have digital cameras built in, the idea is that good samaritans take pictures of criminals in the act and send them via email to the police.
(Picture legions of Japanese clustering around a pickpocket, phones at the ready)
My experience is that your mobile phone is the first thing to get stolen since for the casual pedestrian it's the most valuable (and easy to sell on) thing he's carrying apart from the wallet. Plus, the onboard cameras on the phones are hardly megapixel quality.
(Picture emails to the police of a criminal's butt with the caption "Catch me if you can")
What other stupid uses of 3G can you think up? We might even be able to email the Osaka police with them...
