Direct costs: $6 Trillion USD.

Indirect costs: $2 Trillion USD.

Cultural costs: metal detectors everywhere, tapped phone lines, self censoring, no fly lists, assumed guilty and imprisoned until even formally charged years later, constant state of tension/anxiety about terror.

Return: 6 middle eastern countries in ruin/war, taliban and al'queda reborn as ISIS and Korasan, a few leaders dead and new ones inspired each day, thousands of dead US soldiers, millions of dead civilians.

Just to put in perspective: the cost of this war of terror, if we paid the family of every one that has died, we could give each family 8 million dollars. If we can throw that kind of change around, I'm guessing there are some different directions we could look at.

We're Americans. We may not care a lick about what you are posting about, but if someone doesn't bake a cake for a gay then there's real trouble!

Hopefully I've provoked the usual customers here into responding to your thread. Sure there's plenty of room for discussion about the latter, but the actual harm done isn't comparable in any way. Simply put if it's out of sight it's out of mind. We're going into another adventure now and collectively we don't care, no that's not correct. We're for it. If there were as much outrage over what you say as there are with police shootings we'd not be doing the things that we've done. Go figure.
