hey all,
i built myself a new rig about a month ago, and for the life of me, i can't get it to work!! everything works like a charm til i run a game and poof...it locks up 🙁 usually i don't get past the first 3 seconds of anything 3d, sometimes even the logo screens. but when she does work, she's beeyooootiful. but that's only 1 outta about 10 or 20 tries. maybe someone here can help? here's my rig:

asus p5b deluxe-wifi
core 2 duo e4300 @ 2.7ghz
zalman 9500
evga 8800 gts 320mb superclocked
patriot 2gigs pc5300 ram
asus dvd rom
ocz 600w gamexstream
thermaltake tsunami

windows xp pro

it crashes on ALL games, some games more than others, though none run well, for example:
halflife 2
halo
fear
star wars empire at war
need for speed

some games run more often than others, but those games usually end up artifacting really badly. what do you guys think? thanks!

send the vidcard to mechBgon for further testing 😉

I agree with SS, it appears that the heatsink on your vid card is not positioned correctly on the GPU. I had one like that some time ago, different card tho, hey it happens. Check it out.

The first thing you need to do is set every component back to stock speeds & see if you still have the problem ... before guessing it was anything else, you need to make sure your overclock is stable & if you can't run any games for more then a few seconds my guess is that its not.

If you still get frequent lockups at default clockspeeds, then you can look into things like re-seating the video cards heatsink.

hmmmm....what the heck is mechBgon???

mechBgon is a place where one is bathed in joy - so you will do anything to get back into it. Soran is so keen to return to the Nexus, he is willing to destroy stars to deviate it on its path and snatch him up again. Only an unlikely combination of Captain Jean Luc Picard and Captain James T Kirk can put everything on the line to stop him.

o wait nm
