StoneKeep

I loved this game back in '93/'94 but have yet to find it available for XP play.
Any news on if there will ever be a sequel?

Well, as I recall that was the game that took about 6 years to get out the door and many folks thought it stunk like a skunk when it debuted.
So far as I know the company that made it went out of business a long time ago (or got bought out).
No sequels but if you like that kind of play, I'd recommend Morrowind or Oblivion.

Havent seen a good 1st-person hack'n'slash in a long time. Maybe Dark Messiah of Might and Magic will keep you happy.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I forgot it was done by interplay.

Well, I think most of the original folks might not be there anymore, so one could argue it isnt the same company.
There is a link to related games, you may wish to investigate that.

As you recall or as you read the review to recall? I read the actual Player reviews and they all liked it 8.2+. I myself thought it was awesome back in '94.

I'm just wanting to get this to run on this XP box flawlessly the first time. I've already read numerous googled posts describing DosBox, how their mouse pointer is not right and sound annomilies.
If anyone here can post step by step instructions on how to get this to run in XP..... I'd be abliged 🙂

Ps....... I had 4mb of Vram on the videocard (It was the Diamond Stealth 64) when playing this game back then, which cost me ALOT! Back in the day when sys. memory cost you over $20. per meg! I had 64mb at the time, but with the ram I have now, that would've cost $40,000+ 😉

About StoneKeep

The production took much longer than expected, basically because of the rapid advancement of personal computer hardware at the time; specifically, IBM/PC CPU's advancing from 80386, to 80486, to Pentiums in the years the game was being developed.
The project started out with just two people, Peter Oliphant and Michael Quarles, was intended to last 9 months, and was to cost $50K. But the initial stages of the game looked so good this was extended, and eventually had a production crew of over 200 people, took 5 years, and cost about $5 million dollars.
Upon release, it instantly went platinum and made $10 Million in the first 3 months. It also was nominated and won many awards.

Stonekeep video intro

I remember that game.. It was pretty damn nice, but terribly buggy. Got almost to the end, then couldn't complete cause I'd always ctd on a certain tile.

"Your problem is most likely not caused by the difference between NTFS and FAT, but
the difference between Windows NT/2K/XP and Windows 95/98/ME. Stonekeep appears to
be made for MS-DOS systems, and should also work on Windows 95/98/ME, because they
are based on MS-DOS. Windows XP is not, and that is most likely the problem.

The only things you could try are to use the compatibility mode, or try a DOS emulator
such as DosBox. Other than that, your only option left is to find yourself an old
PC, and run the game on that..."

Getting stonekeep to run in dosbox

It might be easier to just build a "1995" spec'd computer and run it as a dosbox if you want to specifically play this game..

Couldn't you use VMWare with a DOS image? It is something I have been meaning to look into for some of the older games, without the hassle of dual-booting.

Stonekeep was an amazing game and I promote any random thread on it. Stonekeep 2 got cancelled to the dismay of many people.

I still have this game. Its sitting on my shelf. LOL It was good back in the day but yeah it took the developer forever to get it out. Buggy at first but once it was patched it was pretty fun. I havent heard of anyone making it XP playable.
