Stolen Joke (mathematics)

Two math consultants are sitting in the studio cafeteria, and one says to the other: "I'll bet you $50 that waitress is an unemployed mathematician."

His friend takes the bet. Then while his friend is in the washroom, he calls the waitress over and says "There's a $20 tip for you if, after my friend comes back, you come over and answer my next question "one third pi r cubed."

So his friend comes back from the washroom, and the waitress comes over and he says to her, "What's the integral of pi r squared?"

"One third pi r cubed," she says, ".. plus a constant."

hahaahaha

Wait... I don't get it. Waitress is a better mathematician than the bet taker?

edit: She's obviously a mathematician. But I'm guessing that's not the funny part.

I'm pretty sure there was a lot more to it originally. The first time I heard it a few years ago it was a lot funnier. Now it just seems to be missing something. I'm not sure what.

I usually give math jokes a negative score out of 10. But I'll be generous tonight. 2/10.

i dont get it either

Here is the full version, a little more punch than the original poster's version:

Two mathematicians are in a bar. The first one says to the second that the average person knows very little about basic mathematics. The second one disagrees, and claims that most people can cope with a reasonable amount of math.

The first mathematician goes off to the washroom, and in his absence the second calls over the waitress. He tells her that in a few minutes, after his friend has returned, he will call her over and ask her a question. All she has to do is answer one third x cubed.

She repeats "one thir -- dex cue"?
He repeats "one third x cubed".
Her: `one thir dex cuebd'? Yes, that's right, he says. So she agrees, and goes off mumbling to herself, "one thir dex cuebd...".

The first guy returns and the second proposes a bet to prove his point, that most people do know something about basic math. He says he will ask the blonde waitress an integral, and the first laughingly agrees. The second man calls over the waitress and asks "what is the integral of x squared?".
The waitress says "one third x cubed" and while walking away, turns back and says over her shoulder "plus a constant!"

🙁

I can add 2+2=4,but much more than that I get a brain cramp. 🙁

f(x) = x^2

for the mathematics/calculus impaired people...
integrating means you sum up the area under the curve (the function x ^2) , plus a constant =p because the curve can have different intercepts that enlarges the area and that is just a constant (rectangular shape)

one of the integration rules is just x^(n+1)/(n+1), with n = 2 in this case, you'll get x ^3 /3 (one third x cubed) + C.

ok, resident math people... did i explain it correctly?

basically the mathematician forgot the constant but the waitress knows it.

That the waitress is REALLY an unemployed mathematician? So it's saying that mathematicians don't have real jobs?

she says "plus a constant" implying she actually knows what's going on and just plays dumb with the bet maker

It's not funny at all. The original poster is just a retarded douchebag with no sense of humor. Personally, I hope he dies in a fire or something.
