Stolen Elections

Interesting article in IBD yesterday about a topic I've been thinking about the past few days. Where has the outrage and indignation gone regarding potential voter fraud, rigged e-voting machines, voter intimidation and vote suppression? I haven't seen one thread or news story regarding these topics since the election.

Has this become a non-issue since the Democrats won the required seats? I would think with the sheer volume at which some people were screaming of the alleged Republican conspiracies and attempts to sway the elections that there would still be a loud call for investigations. After all, if the calls for vote reform really were based on the principle of a fair vote, wouldn't those principles hold true regardless of the outcome? Does this go to the way side because, "my side won"?

Election 2006: The Democrats were ready to challenge the outcomes of races across the country. But then they won. Suddenly, the races were all fair ? there's nothing to complain about.

...

With less than a week before Election Day, the Democrats' festering obsession inched toward paranoia. Overheated liberals at democrats.com were even warning of the "impending 2006 stolen elections," an assessment that reflected the party's position based on the party's behavior across the years.

...

Well, the Democrats got their way, and we've heard nothing about irregularities or Republican intimidation or conservatives' dirty tricks or red state suppression ? just a lot of Democrats crowing about their coming majority in the House and the big numbers they posted in the Senate races.

By STAFF REPORT

SARASOTA COUNTY - As a recount of the Nov. 7 election results proceeded Monday afternoon, attorneys for congressional candidate Christine Jennings filed an emergency petition in Circuit Court to secure all voting machinery and data for possible further investigation.

"The number one goal is to ensure that every voter's intention is recorded and their votes counted," said attorney Jeffrey Liggio.

The petition includes details about a large undervote in the Congressional District 13 race, as well as an affidavit from a computer expert.

The attorneys said it does not mean that the Jennings campaign will automatically be filing a lawsuit.

The district spans five counties. ,The race between Jennings, the Democratic nominee, and Vern Buchanan, the Republican nominee, was especially close. The Florida Department of State reported Monday that Buchanan had a 377 vote lead. In Sarasota County, however, the Nov. 7 results showed Jennings leading Buchanan by more than 6,800 votes.

Yet those tabulations also showed that 18,382 Sarasota County voters -- nearly 12 percent -- cast no ballot in the congressional race. The large undervote sparked concerns about a computer glitch or voter confusion about the county's touchscreen ballot.

Didn't realize it was a repost. I just scanned the topic headers... didn't pick up on "anyone else notice..."

In any case, I'm not whining. Just making an observation.

As I said the first time. The problems are there and have been since 2000... No one cares and no one does anything about it. It hasn't changed since the Democrats won...

my guess is the folks who did it the last two election cycles got away with it, but it was taken notice of. there was enough exposure about it and there was alot more attention being paid to prevent repeat occurrences which in turn forced the perps to back off from going as full on with the crime as they did previously.

whether or not the extra vigilance helped the dems win this round is speculative a best.

but give the baddies another opportunity and they'll go all out on it again for sure.

"Dean calls for election changes, reform"

"WASHINGTON Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean says there needs to be election reform to make sure that everyone feels like their vote counts.

Dean says Democratic leaders should now focus on redistricting areas that were altered by Republicans. Dean says the party should also push for reforms when it comes to improving voting machines.

As for actual voters, Dean says Democrats made big gains in the Hispanic vote because of the way Republicans presented immigration reform.

Dean says that led many of them to decide that their "future was not with the Republicans."

And if you could read, you would see my post above where I stated that I didn't see the other thread because of the vague title.

it's because for the "repiblicans", crying crocodile tears would only bring attention to something they did that they don't want to ever talk about in public. ;)

Well, the pre-election polls matched the finals results quite well. The results from the Senate were dead on, and the House was pretty close as well. Overall, there seems to be less "shady" things that happened than in previous elections. I think a lot of it also has to do with the fact that the election is finally over and people want to be done with it. The horrors of e-voting were literally beaten to death before the election and since there were not many reports of problems, people won't care for another two years.
