Doing 78mph in a 35mph zone ... $250 fine and a revoked license.

Doing 120mph while resisting arrest ... $35,000 bail and a nice jail term.

Doing 140mph while saying, "Oh $hit, where the fvck are the breaks!?!?!" ... PRICELESS

I almost fell out of my chair reading this:
and the car's muffler dangling from a tree in the 3200 block.

Now we all know what kind of driving is involved when you "drive it like you stole it"

The only thing that could make this worse is to hear that the criminal is suing the owners for not having brake fluid in the car. But, I wouldn't be suprised.

So true that its always those people who survive.

Nah, there was that one guy who stole a black 'Vette and then clipped the rear-end of a semi on the highway that he was trying to pass... the 'Vette got spread over a couple hundred square yards, as did the driver

Well, on the very small plus side, 1980 Corvette's aren't exactly expensive. Probably the least sought-after era, rubber bumpered, smog-choked engine. They should be able to find another for not a lot of money.

Seeing as how the cop said it was going 140MPH, it probably was in nice shape... but... I agree, probably not difficult to find another to restore. Unfortunately, I doubt insurance will cover anywhere near what he sunk into it.

Well, as long as he finds one with a good body and a fscked engine, he could come out almost even, since as noted previously, you might as well replace the engine with a better version of the 350
