I wouldn't say it's very surprising with the memory card surviving and all. I've heard countless tales of memory cards surviving cycles through the washing machine and dryer. Passing the four seasons inside the safe confines of a camera, with its pin holes plugged up, should be a cakewalk for the memory card. Now if the CAMERA survived... that'd be quite a feat, even for a 1D series camera or a higher end Nikon.
