stock market =/ economy

The economy is in the toilet, but a significant part of that is BB trying to goose the market with rate cuts.

What exactly can the government do about this? Asking them to fix it is like asking an Iraqi prime minister to stabilize his country in 30 days and have everyone happy. It's like asking Oprah to stop asking for seconds, Britney to stop cranking out crotch dumplings, and Simon Cowell to not be so damn right all the time (luv ya!).

Looks like the economy is just hitting the perfect storm of housing bubble bursting, credit crunch, cyclical downturn, low consumer confidence etc, it's gonna get a lot uglier.

ugh not this again.

Why dont people understand what/how the stock markets work? It aint gonna go broke. When stocks slide, it's a sale. BUY.

What part of "Buy low sell high" do you alarmists not understand? Why buy gold when it's at it's peak? BUY LOW. Econ 101.

Deep recessions are never good for the economy, any way you spin it.

Im not spinning anything. I never said a recession IS a good thing (although we're not really in one as of today, much less a "deep one lol). What Im saying is, now is the time to buy.

Do you disagree buying when a drop happens is foolish, and buying something that is at it's peak (like gold) is also foolish? Or are you arguing for the sake of arguing?

Buy what? All the stocks worth owning haven't declined enough to make them worth buying.

What makes you qualified on evaluating the stock market? Your massive portfolio?

If its so simple why are there fund managers selling NOW? Of course you are right to buy low sell high, but nobody knows when the low is low or just not quite as low as it's going to get. Your point could have been made when the market was at 13,200 or when it dipped to 12,700, and now it's being made again, but for all we know next month the market will be at 1,100 and if you bought nwo you'd be pissed!

Actually I have a pretty decent portfolio that started with $25/mo in 1986, and over 400% growth since 1999. So yeah. I do have experience.

"All the stocks worth owning"? eh

Burlington Northern
Sempra Energy
Proctor & Gamble
Dow Chemical
3M
Bank of America

Do some research. You're obviously not stupid, just naive.

Exactly. Buy low sell high is fine, the problem is you don't know when it's "low" or "high". You know right now it's "lower" than it's been, but that doesn't mean it can't go much lower before it goes up again.

MOST people can come up with $25/mo without impacting their lifestyle AT ALL. Thats all it takes to start.

Enough with this bullshit already. I am so fricking tired of this hyperbole. It's old, stupid, and incorrect.

How much of that is military equipment (the military/industrial complex) and airplanes (Boeing)?

What's the military's portion of the budget? Then take what's manufacturing's % of GDP, then you get the two.

Manufacturing is alive and well and will actually be increasing in the coming years as we start to become more competitive on an international basis.

I know you guys want this country to tank, but not everybody does and most of us can see a balanced viewpoint.

Who fucking cares? Manufacturing is manufacturing. It doesnt matter if a guy is manufacturing horseshoes or airplane wings. It's a manufacturing job. That pays pretty well.

isn't it funny that this happens right after Bush says how great are economy is ???

Wanna fix it? Vote someone in with a BRAIN.... Pretty simple are spending habits, and decisions to outsource jobs and not spending any money to help the tech sector! It's gonna be a LONG ass ride... This is just the tip of the ice burg. If anyone was smart they would pull out everything you OWN in the stock market ... I would think oil would be ok to own I guess. Face it... Were done... If not, go on your marry way and believe your fantasy dream with Bush...

I bet the feds cut rates again this Monday or sometime next week...

Actually it does. If the guy is manufacturing horseshoes, I'm not paying for his job, his company, or the horseshoes.

If the guy is manufacturing missiles, I'm paying for his job, his company, and the missile, all out of my paycheck.

But if he's manufacturing missiles in Europe that are marginally better, you're all for it.

Don't forget they're cheaper too.

I'm glad the government is starting to do some price comparison shopping.
