Mmm...well according to this review (Clicky) the stock X2 Hsf is the next greatest thing to the 9500cu...

Anyone that has one have anything to say about this? I have a 3000+ Venice and am looking for good cooling and this being reasonably cheap would be a great deal if it's true...Idling in the mid to high 20s for a stock heatsink is pretty amazing I'd say...

Yes the stock X2 heatpipe heatsink is good. It has great cooling performance for an OEM heatsink. AVC made a great cooler for AMD.

The downside is noise. The low profile fan is noisy. I dumped my cooler for and XP-120 + panaflo. If you don't mind noise, the cooler is really good.

Hehe me and minding noise. I have 5 120mm fans running each at about 110cfm they're all unnecessarily loud. I think I won't be able to hear the HSF at all heh.

The main question is whether this thing is truly comparible to a 9500 or if that review is BS. I find it hard to believe that thing does 27C idle...

Its not so much what it does idle....

its has alot to do with what it does in load......

Also you might invest in some 120 mm coolermaster fans.....

Those Panaflo`s are not the quietest fans in the world....

But the coolermasters are darn close!!

Going to get a combo from monarch (x2) and talked to a rep about the hsinks...the way I took it was that he couldn't give me a definite yes on whether the x2's come with the heatsink that you find on the opterons. He did say they do come with pipes (in that regard he was inferring that they were the same as the opterons). Reasoning behind that was he set up a rig with a opteron in it.

27c idle is totally possible... as long as your ambient temps are low and you are using cool and quiet (CnQ). My X2 is idling at 28 right now (XP-120 with panaflo FBA12G12H1BX @ 1700rpm), and the room is a cool 18 degrees C.

I have the heatpipe cooler sitting in a box in the basement (my spare), and when I used it with the stock tim, the idle temps were similar (31c @ 25c ambient).

If I disable CnQ my idle temps climb into the mid 30s. Of course, bumping the voltage and increase the multiplier will do that to a CPU.

I have heard amongst my AMD friends that AMD has a killer heatsink that comes with the Opteron!!

Even without CnQ you can reach those 26--29 temps!!

Again though Idle means little ....
What are the temps under load?
