I'm starting to invest in stocks/mutual funds, etc more now and I wanted to know what kind of desktop programs are out there that can track these stocks real-time or close to real-time.

I am a little tired of bookmarking all the finance.yahoo.com pages :p

Thanks.

a lot of e-trading companies provide web-based streaming charts, prices, news, etc. The good ones provide these for free ;)

The good ones cost money up front plus monthly/annual subscription costs from what ive seen, but I dont have much experience with them

i don't think you can get this for free, unless you have them delayed 20 min or more. they usually come free or with a subscription from an online broker

Well I use Fidelity..and I haven't really seen anywhere that they offer a tracking program. Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Anyone else using Fidelity and know if they have a tracker program?

Maybe you could ask Fidelity? ;)

I think they have a Power Trader option available if you trade a lot.

Cool, thx, I'll look into that one.

Software seems to be free but there are monthly subscription costs for streaming real-time quotes for most of them it looks like

If your broker is supported (and most major ones are), you can use them as a datafeed in QuoteTracker for free.

You can also use Scottrade for free streaming quotes with QuoteTracker. register for free at https://www.scottrader.com/agreements/register.asp (You do not need to be a client. Just need a US address). Once registered, just select "SCOTTRADE STREAMING (FREE Registration)" as the site to get the quotes from. (Not a recommended site, but hey, its free)

There are plenty of brokers that do not have monthly fees. For example, MB Trading, Ameritrade, optionsXpress to name a few.
