any good recommendation on which stock tickers to use? I'm looking for a stock ticker online without any delays. Like up to the second info. Willing to pay a subscription fee for it. All the ones i've found have had like 15 min delays

Hi, does your broker provide one? I use esignal, but it's more of a program and all. Go check it out. you have a 30 day free trial

still in the process of selecting brokers. But most of the ones i've looked at weren't up to the minute. Yea i looked over esignal but it seems that it's really unreliable when there's a huge volume of trading. Like 1-2 minute delays.

real time data is very very expensive. chances are you won't be able to get it.

Most brokers have this as a feature, but you need to pay like $100/month for it. Unless you're day trading, it isn't that important to have it. Any other situation, you're making more long term investments where a couple of cents won't matter, or you're using stop/limit orders, in which case it is unnecessary for you to know what the exact stock price is, because the broker will execute the trade in real-time automatically. And if you are day trading, $100/month for a necessary business expense shouldn't faze you.

that's what i plan on start doing. Hence the real time. I'm going to check out that thinkorswim website. I don't mind paying the extra $100-$300 or whatever price it is for the real time quotes. Just matter of finding one that isn't bad.

I've been looking into DTN.IQ also. Anyone try this?

most brokers will give you real time for free if you are their client, what you want is level 2 quotes, google it to see the different between real time vs level 2, ameritrade gives free level 2 to its APEX clients, or 9.99/month if are not APEX. other brokers might have a similar deal.

Check out opentick.com. Its a free realtime data source (plus a few dollars of exchange fees) that works with a number of software platforms. Out of this, iirc, ninjatrader has a free version that you could use with it, altho I've never tried it.
