I used Artic Silver without removing the three strips of thermal paste that came on the heat sink.

Is that a problem?

In all likelyhood, you now have too much material in between the IHS and the cooler for optimum heat transfer. It is unlikely that will hurt anything, but you're not getting the most out of the heatsink.

But I'm guessing it's a stock heatsink anyway and none those are fantastic to begin with so it won't really matter.

Go to Walmart and buy a bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol, ~$1.70. Use it to clean off all the thermal paste from the CPU and heat sink base, paper coffee filters work well. Reapply Arctic Silver to the base of the heat sink like this.

Thanks, will do.

I'm running my E6300 Wolfdale at 4.0 GHz, but if I can get my temps down that would be good.
