My wives employer: a Doctor. Being a typical Doctor and not much good at finance. Has their retirement plan in a variable annuity.
There are no ticker symbols for the variable annuity and information is almost impossible to find. One fund she does hold is a Midcap index fund.
Knowing a variable annuity was pricy and not having a ticker symbol. I typed in mid cap and looked for the highest price midcap index fund I could find to use as a proxy for our portfolio tracker.
You guessed it. Highest price midcap index fund was Gartmore at a whopping 1.31% with 12b-1 fee of 1.00%!
Thats the limit of my experience with Gartmore.
Thanks a lot, I suspected this fund was, um, worth suspecting. It sounds like a wonderful tool to milk people out of some of their money.
