What do you guys think about these things? I'm personally in love with them. I love the look, the multi-fin heatsink, the slick looking fan, it's decent size, and it's cooling capability! One of my friends is running a 1900+ at 94F degrees with one of these + Arctic Silver 3! :Q

I decided to ditch my Volcano5 and got one of these off eBay for under 10 bucks for my 1.2GHz t-bird.

Well, the things are low-performance. If you're not going to overclock, then they will do the job.

AMD has 2 different retail fans. 1900+ use Dynatron's skived fin 60x60 heatsink.
1800+ and lower used Cooler Master's DP5-6I11A.

Good that you clarify, I was going to start crapping the retail heatsink (AXP 1800+ and Duron 1.3) ;)

I am running a 2000+ with the retail dynatron cooler and am very happy with its performance. Didn't even bother to switch my sk6 over to the xp chip. As long as you aren't overclocking it does the jobe very well.

Wow, thats pretty good temps for a retail HSF, usually Retail HSF's are junk, espically AMD's. I have no experience with there retail HSFs, but my Volcano5 is a piece of junk, maybe if I order a 1900+, I'll go for the retail if the price is right.

the heatsink in that review is not the dynatron thinfin heatsink that amd bundles in their retail 1900+ and 2000+ boxed processors. This is the heatsink fan that comes with the retail 1900+ and 2000+. Here is a review of the actual heatsink that come with the 1900+/2000+.

I dont know why people actually put down these coolers. They keep the CPU at a level that isnt dangerous. Do you really expect AMD to provide a 7000rpm copper cooler with their retail products?

Your thoughts make a good paper weight? I disagree. Your thoughts are to empty of substance to have the qualifying mass to make a good paperweight. ;)

Try posting something of substance that adds to the discussion and your input will be more appreciated.

I was running an XP2100+ with the stock hsf and it was running 72C (Yes, Celcius).. Of course my case is a modified Mac G4 case which has horrible case cooling, but the hsf still did a very poor job. I swichted to a Thermalright SLK800 and now my temp runs at 50C. MUCH better.. While the AMD stock hsf is probably good for most cases, overclocking or like in my case poor case cooling conditions the retail hsf is very bad! If you look on overclockers.com's heatsink review, it shows AMD hsf coming in near dead-last, a HUGE difference from the top running hsfs available.

the amd retail heatsink they show in that review is not the one that comes with the xp 1900+ and 2000+. if you go a ways up that list you will see a Dynatron dcm 1206bm heatsink for the P4 that is the p4 version of the heatsink that amd includes with the 1900+ and 2000+. Ranks a little bit better than the stock p4 retail heatsink. Looks to me like AMD did at least as good with their retail cooler as intel this time which is a big improvement. Can't fault the cpu cooler when you have a poor case cooling environment. For it's intended use in a case with reasonably good ventilation it is a very good as long as you aren't overclocking.
