I am about to place a somewhat ambitious sell limit order (meaning my selling price is a few cents more than the current price), I am just wondering if the stock price doesn't rise that high, will I still have to pay for the commission? Do they charge me when I place a limit order or when the order gets executed? Btw, scottrade here. :)

don't most of them only charge a limit when you actually make a transaction (buying/selling stocks)?

Commission on nothing is nothing, since no transaction took place. They may charge a fee for simply placing the order though, call them.
