i have a 2.8E GHZ p4 and the average temps are about 46~48 ~4400-4800 RPM (closed case). when i have my case open its at about 36C ~2800-2900 RPM. i have no case fans. i really want to lower the cpu fan rpm so its not as loud. should i buy a new cpu fan or add some case fans?

Upgrade to a new heatsink fan... preferably a good heatpipe with a large 120mm fan. The new Intel fans are loud because they need to compensate for the Prescott's heat.

I'd say the best heatsink is a SP-94 and then hook up a 80mm or 92mm fan to a controller. The Zalman 7000acu is a very quiet combination also.

Yes you can always spend another $50 on a better fan unit, put another $20 in good quiet fans but you will still have the added noise from them. Or leave it alone and deal with the noise that you are going to have anyways. Unless of course you spend the dough on the quality heatsink.
