Stock Mustang GT converted to a Saleen = rice or cool?

Guy at my work bought a 2000 mustang GT brand new. Over the years, he has converted it to a S281 Saleen... all parts purchased from Saleen themselves, including body parts, interior parts, chrome wheels, etc. He even had Steve Saleen sign the car in 3 or 4 places. He is a Saleen nut. His car is indistinguishable from a real S281 saleen except that his "id plate" doesn't have a serial (car) number, it's blank.... but Saleen did sell him the plate because Steve signed his car.

The only non-Saleen thing on the car is the fact that he added an HID kit.

What do you think? Did Steve Saleen's signature on the dash, in the engine bay, in the trunk and somewhere else make it real? Or did he waste approx. $18,000 in parts converting his Stang?

No, he's pretty open about telling people he converted it himself. He said the reason is that most Saleens have to be purchased with cash because the banks only see them as regular mustangs... and so the only way for him to have a Saleen would be to buy a GT and convert it himself, no way he had 30k or 40k in cash sitting around.

The parts were produced by Saleen. Installed by someone else. There is nothing wrong with this - it is still a Saleen, if a slightly inferior one.

didn't saleen have a performance advantage? if so, and he didnt do that, then it is rice.

The S281 had different intake and some other stuff (which he has in his car as well) but the basic S281 had no major performance boost...just looks.

hmmmmm.... it says Steve Saleen signed it himself after inspecting it, thus, I would say it's enough to be considered a real Saleen, homebuilt. As long as he says it's homebuilt, it's all good.
