Well i was just sitting reading stuff on msn and saw that for like the 10th day in a row the dow jones has been down and so has nasdaq. Does anyone out there think taht the stocks are going to go back up like they were booming about 2 years ago? If so toss in you opinion on which stocks are hot and which ones are not...i got some extra cash floating around and am thinking about investing but am not sure wether tech is a good idea now or not.

The stock market boom we had two years ago is not likely to be repeated any time soon. Historically(sp) stocks go up...sometimes you just have to wait a long time for that to happen.

I am going to give you some basic advice even though you didn't ask for it.

1) Do NOT depend on an online BB for information about the best individual stocks. TRUST ME.
2) Do not invest your money without doing extensive research. Why throw away what you work so hard for? There are several good books, magazines, and the always venerable Wall Street Journal.
3) If you don't want to do the research, then take your money to a professional (Merryl Lynch, Prudential, etc..). This escalates your chances of making a solid return and not losing it all like my brother-in-law did on Enron stock (I swear, he just would listen to me!).

I would also like to add that now is the perfect time to invest. The easiest way to make money is to buy low and sell high. When the market is down, historically the most successful investors have put more into the market and the less successful ones have pulled money out of it. It is a tendency of people to get shy about investing when the market is in a down cycle, but logically you will make your highest gains out of it.

wyvrn....thanks for the tips...i've done research on many stocks i.e. reading background information and their profits and such. I would never just throw my money away on a tip someone gave me before i spent a few good hours reading up on the stock i was told about. That is a good heads up though.

Sure thing. I guess I have just seen too many people throw their money down the drain without thinking. Seems like you have your head on straight though :)

Yes. It will resume it's upward growth on April 1st, and climb to wild heights never before seen. Buy any stock you can get NOW!

hahaha...oh wait, you're serious.

There was a study done awhile ago where some professional stock analysts picked some stocks, and so did some idiots with the same amount of money. Who won? The idiots. The lesson? No one can pick the correct stock 100% of the time. No one can predict when it will go up or down. If you feel like taking a chance, get in now. If not, go play some bumper bowling.

The markets were going up until about a week ago.

I remember that the week after September 11th, some analysts were saying that the DJIA would go down to 5000.

Working in the securities industry myself, i can say with no degree of uncertainty that there is no way that the monkeys would demean themselves to the level of being seen in the company of stock analysts, much less competing in a contest with them. The monkeys are far smarter, and the analysts' hygiene leaves much to be desired to the average monkey.

Most 'thinking people' toss their money away making their own decisions too so go figure - flip a coin. ;)

Seems like you have your head on straight though.

Its not the head on the shoulders that counts, its the balls below it.:)

Anybody have any oppinion in AMD stock?

We recently pulled out our only venture in the market last dec to take the losses out of our taxes and its about time to put it back in.
I really dont want to put it back in mutual funds and was kind of thinking of putting it all in 1 stock. I dont intend to pull it out for 5 years.
The only thing I am interested in is computers and Medicine.

I figure AMD is not going away in the next 5 years and it seems that a lot of stuff is developing.
I am not talking about a lot of money maybe $9000 dollars.
Anybody have strong oppinions in putting it all in AMD stock?

I dont know much about the market and have had several headaches in the past trying to do research.

thanks

...then you probably shouldn't go gambling on one stock pick. Since you don't want mutual funds I'd say put it in a 3-year CD paying 4.25% since it's zero-risk.
