Stock Market Question

Hey all you stock market gurus and junkies.

I am interested in getting involved in the market on a small level. I want to only invest about 600-700 in it, about 600 in long term stocks (to hopefully turn a bigger profit later) and about a 100 to make some quick chump change in the next few years. Is this even possible?

Also do you know of any good resources that teach about the market, etc?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

meh, if you don't know people and are doing something small, I'd just do etrade or something.
