I guess that was a step backwards. Same method of using AS5 on both coolers. I gained 5C in idle temps instantly. But it is more quiet. I checked the install over and over and it's fine. Guess I'll take it back unless you have any suggestions. If I wait several days for the AS5 to bond how much cooler can I expect it to run? (Overclocked to 3GHz.)

It was thirty bucks so I thought I would be getting a fair cooler but I guess not. Frys didn't have as many to pick from as I expected.

I have read nothing good about that cooler.

Frys is a long drive for me and while I was in there I just decided at the last moment to try an aftermarket cooler. I had done no research at all and my PC has been running fine with the stock cooler. But I looked at different models and bought a mid priced heatpipe unit from a name I recognized. Obviously I made a bad choice and need to return it. They didn't have too much to pick from either. I think I'm going to exchange it for a Big Typhoon.

EDIT: Also, do you happen to have any links to what you read on the internet? I can't find many professional reviews on this cooler.

It looks like you have a pretty capable box, With a good cooler it should carry a decent OC reliably. The arctic cooler would be a good budget choice with that setup.

what was the load temp you got from TMG i2 compare to your stock cooler?

are you using centurion 532 or 534+ or 5?

i just built a comp for my friend with Q6600 and that cooler (I2) (since she prefers quiet) and the temp seems to be alright, alittle hot but still within acceptable range (not throttle on load ) and her case is coolermaster mystic 631.

i owned the centurion 5 with current set up and stock cooler, i realized if own a centurion 5 you need plenty of air flow in the case and exhaust those hot air.

by the way since you overclocked to 3ghz with e6400, u shouldnt expect TMG i2 to do the job well, since its design is not for overclocking, you should go for thermalright u120 extreme etc.

kind regards,

Actually things are much better now. I reapplied my AS5 and used a considerably thinner line on my C2D. Then I heated and cooled my CPU several times and then just let it run with a stress test. Finally, I shut off the Smart Fan control in my BIOS. It worked fine with the Intel cooler but is not needed with the Thermaltake cooler since it's pretty quiet. (Much more quiet than the Intel OEM HSF.) My current core temps with a 3GHz overclock are 45 and 43 at idle and right around 55 under load. Not too shabby actually. I'm more impressed with this cooler than I was the first day.

I have the Centurion 5 and did replace the fans which were included. My case temp never gets over 40C.
