Stock Intel Cooler question

Hey guys, hey!

I'm selling a family member some old parts and I don't have the stock cooler for the i7 2600K I'm selling him. However, I got a stock cooler for my recently purchased i7 4970K.

I believe the LGA1150 and LGA1155 have the exact same slots on the MoBo, I'm just more concerned about the power difference. I can't seem to find exact ratings on Google.

I'm sure it's a safe bet to give him my 4790K stock cooler, correct? If I had to wager, it's the same design since they brought out LGA1155.

I think the newer cooler would be OK, I wouldn't think the design would change much even given the lower TDP. The two alternates would be to buy a simple air cooler (like the CoolerMaster 212 Evo) or get a leftover 2nd gen cooler off FS/FT.

I'm fairly certain they are the same heatsink. Cheaper chips (i3 and lower?) are solid aluminum, while i5 and i7 heatsinks have a copper core, but I believe the design has been the same since Sandy Bridge.

I was going to post a very similar question. I'm building a HTPC with a low power I3 4130T (35W). Was thinking of putting my socked 1155 Xeon 1230-V2 copper stock heatsink on the Core I3. I'm assuming the copper would cool it better and the fan would possibly run at a lower speed.

Like the OP, I'm thinking 1155 will fit 1150 sockets (from what I can tell).

That's what I did with my HTPC... put my i5 Intel cooler on my little Pentium, then the i3... works very well.
