Stock Intel Cooler Fan Speed Control

Have an E4300 OC'd to 3.15 GHz at 1.41 V, on an ASUS P5B DX board. At idle I get the following approximate temps (deg. C):

CPU-System-RPM-Mode
36 - 36 - 2136 - Q-Fan Disabled
41 - 39 - 1188 - Q-Fan Silent
41 - 39 - 1180 - Q-Fan Optimum
38 - 39 - 1300 - Q-Fan Performance

I'm curious about the control mode of the Intel fan when Q-Fan is disabled. I never see it vary much from idle to loaded. Never seems to go below 2100 or above 2200. Is it a fixed speed and it just wanders around a little, or is there still some control being applied? If yes, is there any way to adjust it? Since I can't really hear it, I've been leaving it in the disabled mode to get the lowest temps. Will it really do just as well in the Q-Fan Performance mode, and speed up when needed, and make the bearings last longer?
 
Disable= no control+ full speed
If it is quiet enough for you leave it as that is your best temp. If and when it dies ebay a new one for ten bux, I've got stock coolers for every chip I've bought still un-used. Most overclockers use aftermarket heatsinks for improved cooling.
 
Disabled will give you the coolest temps. The fan speed will tend to fluctuate a little as you have noticed but is not an issue. I turn off all motherboard fan controllers... I like my fans running at full speed 24/7. The only reason you might want to turn them on is if the noise of the fans bothers you but there is no harm in disabling these controllers.

Thanks, I think I will do exactly the same, as noise is not an issue even at full speed. Besides it makes me feel better about running this chip 72% overclocked - some guilt relief!
