stock hsf ok for no overclocking?

hey guys me again 😛 now that i think of it i might have to stay with a stock hs/f. im wondering how long my 2000+ will last with the stock....no overclocking will be done.

also, i need to know how much crappier a volcano 7+ is compared to a sk7, cause i cant do special orders at my store and am probably forced to get the volcano, if i must not use stock hsf.

at the bottom of this page, there are a few hsf's. im assuming the volcano 7+ is the best, right? if so, what difference is there between the 7+ and 7....

thnaks,

David.

stock heat sink\fan combo will be fine , otherwise they wouldn't give you a better waranty on the boxed kit.

just so you know , your other thread about the same thing was still going fine. your better off keeping the same conversation going in the same post.
good luck

Except that one needs a subscription, which many of us don't have.

The stock is included because it works. In fact, I think AMD warns that you must use only the stock HSF to keep your warranty, though I'm using an AX-7 on my retail HSF.

It does the job, though the temps are a bit high, and the noise level may not be very low. It does make for a nice paperweight though 🙂

Thats what the stock HSF is meant for...it covers your 3 year warranty...so look for the 2000+ to last at least 3 years.

Don't know if the volcano is better or worse than the sk7, but it is LOUD in comparison with an sk7 with a panaflo on top. THats what i use on my 2100+ at stock speeds.

Of course the AMD fan is fine. Why else would they include it with the CPU 😕 Jeez...the cooling Nazis really have infected people. With the stock HSF, it should last...oh...indefinitely 🙂

ditto. although i wished that i have gotten a quiet (even tho the retail HSF is not noisy, but...) and more efficient HSF rather than the $5 thermaltake or something offered by AMD

but it will do you fine. 3 year warranty is great for noobs, in case you mess up something

oh there will be class action lawsuits soon. amd and intel engineers are either incompetent or damn nefarious!! your cpu will slowly fry over 12 months and you'll be forced to upgrade giving amd more sweet sweet cash!

its scandalous i tells you!!

don't even get me started on dells and those compaqs with only 1 or two case fans and a stock intel/amd heatsink!

scandalous!!

notice you've never EVER seens a compaq or dell over 12 months old?

???????????..........i've redone\upgraded quite a few 4-5 year old dell's or compaqs.
the prepriatory stuff sucks but it's built to last.

perhaps i wouldn't have to if people would stop scaring noobs into believing their computer will explode without the biggest baddest hsf out there😛

The guy at fry's told me my system wouldn't post without some kind of aftermarket heatsink... He recommended the thermalright SLK900. Everything seems ok now.
