I just installed my P4 with the stock heatsink fan and used arctic silver 3 but my CPU temp is around 50C idle. This seems a bit high to me. I plan on getting a new heatsink fan anyways, but does anyone know what the idle temp for a stock heatsink is? Or could be that I used a little too much arctic silver?

Depends on temperature in room. 2.8C runs at 31 to 45 idle depending on room temperature. During the summer gets over 40 and during the winter stays around 30-35.

I redid my arctic silver. There was way too much but the temp remains around 45C. I'm just gonna get a Zalman. Or it could be the case. Stupid Aspire DreamerX. Next time I build a computer, no more cutting back on a good case.
