Stock Heatsink has scratches

I have a stock heatsink that came with my Rig from MWARE and it's seems like it's got a ton of scratches on on side where it was making contact with my cpu core. I tried GooGone and Isopropyl alcohol and no luck in getting rid of it. I have o/c to 1.2GHz (12X100) with idle temps around 44C and full load temps slightly higher. This stock heatsink is made by AVC w/ about 5000rpm's. I have Artic Silver II on it now but the temperature has increase over the stock thermal paste that was on there. How significant could this be?

it should be perfectly smooth, if it's not you can always lap it. i'd go with an aftermarket HSF, alpha, taisol, globalwin, etc. start with a 600 grit and slowly make your way toward 1200 or 1500 (my store didn't have 1200, i had to go to 1500).

I agree with ZeroBurn on this one. Lap that bad boy. I usually tape the sandpaper down on a mirror or other flat surface and start with 400 or 600 and work your way up to 1000 then 1500 grit. Should look like a mirror when you are done.
