I have a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton OEM with stock headsink and fan. I'm looking to replace the heatsink fan because it is very loud. I know this is a simple question, but I can not find out what the size of the fan is? I'm guessing 80 MM but I am not certain.

The fan is probably 60mm. But to make sure you can always measure the diameter of the fan. If you do not have a metric rule you can use the standard ruler measured in inches, then multiply it by 25.4 and round it off to the nearest 10's.

Yes, just use a ruler or tape measure with both metric and inches on it to measure your fan across the flats. It will be either 60 or 70mm. The stock HSF for the Athlons/Durons was/is mostly made by Ajigo.com .
. It is almost impossible to find a 60 or 70mm fan that can move a significant amount of air w/o a lot of noise. You could use a Zalman (et al.) fan bracket and sort of aim a 92mm fan in the general direction of your heatsink. I've found that the fan adapters are a waste of time for that type of HS (vertical parallel fins with a closed bottom)
. The other otion is to get an HSF with an 80mm fan. The Speeze/Spire/Masscool (all actually the same company) WhisperRock or FalconRock do a great job of cooling quietly and are inexpensive. I like the FalconRock over the WhisperRock because it has the 3-hole mounting clips - the copper base is just nice gravy. But the Falcon does cost a bit more. They fit most Sock-A mobos, even those with big caps tight around the socket as the sides of the HS taper down nicely.
