Stock H100 TIM or Noctua NT-H1?

Hey guys,

Doing some upgrades to my rig tomorrow, one of which is the Corsair H100 to replace my Noctua NH-D14. Is the TIM that comes on the H100 from the factory any good or should I remove it and put my NT-H1 TIM in its place? Will be using the 2 stock fans with the H100 for now until I do some measurements to see if I can fit 2 more into the equation 😎.

Rest of the Upgrades:
Corsair 600T Special Edition White
2x XFX 6990s
Corsair AX1200 PSU
5x Silverstone FM121B Case Fans. 4x will be used on the mesh side panel as intake fans and 1x will replace the stock rear exhaust fan that comes on the 600T
1x 200mm Antec Big Boy to replace the stock front 200mm Intake Fan
NZXT Sentry Mesh Fan Controller

Thanks 🙂

I used both on my H100, they are comparable. The NH-T1 might be slightly better but its not going to make or break you reaching a given clockspeed with a given voltage.

Indigo Xtreme really moves those temps lower though.

Well I figured if the stock stuff is good to just leave it instead of having to clean it all off, but I can't find any info on exactly what paste they use on the H100. I like the NT-H1 due to it not having any cure time.

The IX looks pretty interesting, but doubt I'd have the balls to let my cpu get as high as it needs to for the reflow process ... maybe later on if I'm feelin' gutsy.

There's no balls needed. You can run your CPU without a heatsink, Intel designed it to auto-throttle for you. Just don't do it while OC'ing, leave it at stock volts and clocks and let the technology work for you.

But it is a PITA to remove the IX.

I always get crazy ideas every time I browse Anand and [H] lol. I'm going to order IX in a week or two. Want to see how the H100 performs compared to my NH-D14 first. Hoping it performs as good or better, going to LOVE having all the space back in my case!

So since I'll be running the IX with the H100 how would I go with the reflow process? Just turn off all the fans in my case or do I need to disable the pump as well? Sorry for all the questions, but I figured I'd as you since you went through that process already rather than searching through a bunch of threads. Also, does the IX need to be replaced after a certain amount of hours/days or is it ok for a while?

Thanks man!

Did you happen to see this thread? 😛

Yeah for the H100 you basically unplug the fans and the molex power to the pump and then let it ramp. The IX package contains instructions for monitoring the reflow and so on.

Only thing I can warn you is that with both your D14 and your H100, being good coolers as they are, it takes >10min to get to the reflow stage. Don't think you missed it somehow after the first 5-10 minutes. It takes a long time.
