I am looking to buy AMD 64 3200+ . I am thinking of replacing the stock fan that comes with the processor with an alternative to be used with stock heatsink . i tried finding the size of the stock fan , but couldnt find it anywhere . what size fan is it and which fan would be better than the stock . i dont mind a high db fan as long it gives high cfm and better cooling than stock fan

Thanks :)

Welcome to AnandTech puns.

You will have better cred if you show some profile. Give us a location because it helps to
know it someone is in the States or not. I don't show e-mail but I do indicate Long Beach,Ca.

Your stock fan is 70x15mm and probably drives 20cfm. I use one of these fans for HD cooling.
www.SVC.com has a 70 to 80mm fan adapter. Then you have to have a 80x25mm fan with a sensor/tach wire.
Total cost, about $15 before tax and shipping.
If you already have a suitable 80mm fan this might be a good set-up. The adapter should be made to fit
the top of the HS well. You may have to use a self made foam gasket to insure a good seal.
Air will bleed-out if the adapter is not fitted well.

Much better option. Go to www.Jab-Tech.com. Buy an XP-90 Retail for $32. It comes with a good fan and thermal paste.

Or at the same site. Buy a Scythe Katana for $30. Again, it comes with a decent fan and TIM (thermal interface material).
Jab-Tech ships fast, charges no tax and does not profit off of shipping cost.

Both of these HSs use a 92mm fan. Both fans have a sensor/tach wire. The only down-side that some will
*WHINE* about is having to remove the motherboard to do a proper installation.
