Stock Coolers: LGA1156 i3 vs i7

palindrome

Senior member
I need the physical height of the stock heatsinks for i3, i5, and i7

So far, I only know know the height of the i3:

i3 = 60mm
i5 = ?
i7 = ?

This is for a miniITX build that I am trying to prep for. I am aware that stock intel coolers suck.

Here are my results for running Core i7 860 stock speeds on a stock cooler: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/...-UD3R/i860IntelStockCoolerPrime95-100load.jpg

I do not recommend it.

Consider getting a low profile cooler such as this: http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/scythe-big-shuriken-low-profile-cpu-cooler-scbsk-1000.html

Seconded, the stock cooler is awful. I managed to push mine to 96C with LinX. And that's in my big, airy HAF922. A mini-ITX case would be even worse.

That is not the physical height of the HSF. That is the physical height + "airspace" requirement. Figure 10-8 shows this.

Correct..

Page 80 has the real size:

Its 46mm tall including the fan.
With mounting holes 75mm apart.

I take it that none of these would fit a LGA 755? I'm asking because im using a large p4 cooler on my E8400 and was hoping that one of these Stock HSF would fit. Since be a nice replacement for my cooler since most stock coolers fall under the $10 range

Oops, my mistake. Still, I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish... without that airspace, the cooler is even worse than it already is. I got my CPU to 4 degrees off TJMax on that cooler with plenty of airspace.

Nope, the mounting holes are farther apart.

Honestly, Intel should have excluded the heatsink and reduced the price of their CPUs by $10. I can't for the life of me understand how in the last 10 years AMD has had superior heatsinks, while their CPUs cost less!!! Intel, shame on you.
