Stock Cooler with the Q6600

I plan to buy the q6600, but I don't plan to OC right away. I do, however, insist on a quiet HSF that does a good job, even at stock, of keeping the CPU cool. If possible, cooler and quieter than the stock HSF. What's out there that isn't going to break the bank?

When I do OC, it'll probably be fairly light, so I don't need top of the line cooling...just best bang for the buck (and quiet) cooling.

Thanks!!!

BTW, this will be in a Coolermaster Centurion 5 case, on an Abit IP35-E motherboard, with 2GB Crucial Ballistix.

THanks again.

How big's your bank? ;)
Seriously, i'm in the same boat as you & am wondering the same thing.
I think alot of people will tell you the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, but at ~$55, I don't know how much weight that'll be on your bank. :)

if no OC, stock HSF is very nice. quiet and reasonable cooling
idle coretemp is about 15c higher than room temperature (typically 35-40c)
4-core full load under stress test, coretemp is about 40-45c higher than room temperature (typically 65-70c)
gaming coretemp is about 50-55c

Well, if there are no other choices, then that's what I'll do. I can live with stock cooler for a time, but will strip it off in a heartbeat if it's too loud or fails to cool my chip properly. I keep reading that the stock HSF is "crap" but people really don't elaborate on what "crap" is. If it's crap for a good OC, but otherwise is quiet and effective, then I'm OK with it until I do OC.

You right, it's not too good. At least get a cheap replacement like AC7 to keep it cooler and lower noise. You might consider something like TR 120 UX if overclocking or something equivalent. that Q6600 when OCed gives off a ton of heat.
