Stock AMD Retail cooling

I've heard at one point in time the stock AMD retail coolers used to rock. Weren't they Coolermasters? I'm just wondering how they stack up these days. Obviously they're no Zalman, but how good are they?

The current ones are actually pretty darn good. All the ones I've received as of late are of the heat pipe variety, and they appear to do a good job.

The heatpipe variety come with FX-55 FX-57 and the X2 4x00 processors (not the X2 3800+) All others come with a 100% Al heatsink.

The stock coolers are good on their entire line of CPUs right now. Even my Sempr0n 2800+ came with a good cooler that allowed an easy 700 mhz OC. They are not terribly silent, though.

well, I wouldn't call them loud either. They are decent middle of the road coolers. You really don't need more than the stock cooler unless you are doing fairly significant overvolting or you want a totally silent PC.

or you are a cooling freak and just need your processor running as cool as possiable (on air and without too much noise)

Thats why I have an XP-120 on my Semp 2500+ @2.4ghz

Ocing my 3000+ Winnie from 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz with the stock Aluminum HSF. Runs about 35*C at idle and 52*C at 100% load (Prime Torture test, Large FFT's, max heat).

I am actually stable at 2.53 Gig also, but since I can run at 2.4G with all default voltages i use that instead.
