STi's are too much used, CTS-V on my radar instead

I've been looking to upgrade my WRX to an STI just for the hell of it but... CTS-V popped up on my cardar.

Both cars are not that common, both cars are performance 4 doors.

One is a boat but has the suspension and engine to back it up and the other is a boy racer part time rally car.

Similar MPG from what the forums tell me... but here's the crazy thing I've been noticing...

CTS-V's are going or 17-22k with simliar miles as STi's

yeah yeah it's been discussed but I only compared the CTS-V to a M3/M5 up until now

The ctsv isn't a boat at all great car. And I bet if you contact jlee he has a really clean 04 ctsv that he has been toying around with selling black on black about 70k on it rust free AZ car I've driven it its all there! Your decsion to switch is good the V is very comfortable. And a good handling car and prices for repair parts are like any normal GM car.

The CTS-V is a great ride. I've been averaging ~15.5ish mpg according to the trip calculator, but lately with a little more highway driving and less hoonery I'm up to 17mpg. If you drove like a normal person and had mostly highway they're supposed to get in the 20s.

It's not a boat at all - less than 150lbs heavier than a 2012 BMW M3 coupe, but you get a 5.7l V8 and four doors.

I am kicking around thought of selling mine (so many cars...) - if you want pics or anything, let me know. ;)

Every time I think about a car like that, 15 MPG stops me dead in my tracks. If you're already going to buy a car that's completely impractical, why not just buy a real sports car?

Your definition of practicality is solely based on fuel economy?

Some people like having four doors. And torque.

Like what? Also, the CTS-V or STI are both ludicrously overpowered for public roads anyway, how fast do you really want to get that ticket?

OP the STI is a boy-racer car no matter what anybody says. The CTS-V is far more polished, performance comparisons aside. It's the difference between a loud skank you're embarrassed to show your parents and your future wife.

What year are you looking at? Around here a 2010 STi would cost about 30k used. A 2010 CTS-V is about 48-50k...And they are pretty tough to find, too.

He said 17-22k, which would be an 04-07 CTS-V.

Right, I just was giving a comparison of the same year..I don't see why an 07 would cost less than an STi of that year when the '10 does? I just went on autotrader for like 1 minute and checked.

Edit: Is the CTS sport the same as the V? I couldn't find any CTS-V within 200 mile of me, from 04-07..Weird.
Also, the STi was more money than the CTS sport, but not sure if these are comparable?

Do it! I love CTS-Vs and wouldn't mind one as my next car, even if the mileage isn't great. I was behind one a lot in the mountains at an S2000 meet and with just an exhaust is sounded incredible.

No, not remotely the same. There aren't very many CTS-Vs around - here's US sales:

2004 2,461
2005 3,508
2006 3,052
2007 1,176

Because M3 or M5 gets much better gas mileage...

Is 220-255 hp the same as 400 hp?

Oh wow, pretty rare then..Why is the used price so low? I wish it didn't snow so much up here, I would love to pick one up for 20k.

Have you driven my 550i suggestion yet? 2007s are in the same price range as CTS-Vs... they're not as raw, but don't discount their performance.

If you're interested in cross-country, shoot me a PM. Once my Tacoma is sorted out and daily-able (should take a day of previous-owner-catch-up maintenance) I'll be seriously thinking about selling the CTS-V. Four vehicles is a little much for me without having a garage, RV gate, or parking lot. :p

I get around 15mpg in mixed driving and 21mph pure highway out of my V. I would think that the 5.7L would easily get 26+ mpg highway and 20 mixed as my LS2 GTO achieved that. I think the weight and gearing of the GTO and V are nearly identical.
