Here is the problem:

I have a customer who has an HP Photosmart 215 Digital camera. The software is installed and functioning properly for it expect that when she tries to download the pictures for the camera to the computer she gets and error saying that the camera is not availble. The camera is a USB device and seems only to work properly when the camera is plugged into the computer and turned on, on bootup. When the camera is plugged into the computer when windows is running stimon.exe crashes. (Explorer comes up saying the stimon.exe has performed and illegal operation.)

Since stimon.exe comes with windows I thought this would be the best forum for this topic.

Any ideas on why this is happening.

STIMon.EXE, Still Image Monitor, is the Digital Camera and scanner interface driver for USB under Win98/SE/ME/2K.

USB digital cameras and scanners use a push format, and notify STIMon.EXE that there are images that will be sent via USB to the system.

Make sure that you have the latest drivers/software for the digital camera, and if the system is based on a VIA chipset motherboard, make sure that the VIA 4-in-1 drivers are installed along with the USB filter.
