so i am new to the DVD backup scene. i plan to backup my entire collection and see what i can do with them, it can prepare me for editing videos with my new DV camera i bought.
i have gotten as far as:
1. putting the disc into the DVD rom drive
2. using DVDshrink to backup the data
now what i want to do is to compress the video, like people do for distribution on the internet.
i figure that around 700mb/dvd is good, its better than the huge 5 gigs per each disc that i would run into.
what are your thoughts and preference for storing uncompressed, mpeg-2 data (dvd/.vob)?
i am about to purchace both a DVD+RW drive, and a 250GB WD HDD. i have 18 DVD's in my set. at 5GB each, it would be around 90GB, give or take. i could live without the features, menus, and bs like that.
now my quesiton is: when you use dvd shrink and backup your DVD to a single layer DVD+/-R, do you notice any big quality loss? and is this better than divx/xvid?
what would be your choice if you wanted absolutely best quality?
