Sorry, I really need to rant...

After over four weeks I'm still without my replacement hard drive :disgust: My drive failed so I raised an RMA on the 20th October 2001. I sent the drive back to the Netherlands the following day (should of took 2 days to get there). First the package was apparently lost. Then two weeks ago IBM sent me an email to say they had received the drive and I was due for a replacement.

Just rang them to find out what?s going on...

Me : Just checking to find out when I'll receive my replacement drive
IBM : According to our system we have not received your original drive
Me : Well I had an email two weeks ago stating that you had found it (I then read out the email I received off them)
IBM : Right, looks like our warranty department sent you that - they have more up to date information than us. We are out of stock of replacements at the moment (not surprised considering how many fail). I cannot say when you will get your replacement.
Me : Ok, can I speak to your warranty department please?
IBM : No, you'll have to send them an email
Me : I did, last Monday but not received a reply
IBM : You'll have to try to send another email - they don't take phone calls
Me : Ok, I'll try that again :|

I am very disappointed with IBM at the moment, their service is abysmal ? waiting over four weeks for a replacement drive is not on.

Unlucky mate...

Its a shame that IBM has so many people / returns to deal with, as I'm sure their service would be quicker otherwise.
I'm sorry to say that many people's bad experiences have put me off IBM, although I love their drive's quick responce and quiet operation.

Hope you get some better service soon!

The drive which failed was only about 5 months old. I still have an IBM 27Gb 7200RPM drive in my machine as my primary disk, been in heavy use for at least 18 months without problem - their old drives are the biz, the new ones are just junk (IMO).

Just for the record...

I am not annoyed with the fact that the drive died (well, I am a little), the thing which has really p****d me off is the fact that its been over 4 weeks and I'm still no closer to getting a replacement.

Yeah, I can appreciate what youre saying :) I hate the hassle of an RMA...

I think enough people are taking their business elsewhere ever since the problem with the 75GXP series of drives surfaced, that IBm is going to wake up soon and sort it out... Hopefully...

Good luck with the RMA and I hope youre replacement comes through soon!

rover825lover : 6 weeks! - and you live in the Netherlands too so they cannot blame it on shipping. For 6 weeks wait 15Gb hard drive space is the least they should do! Damn I'd rather have my 40Gb drive back now, rather than 60Gb in another two weeks.

still waiting for a 20 GB 75gxp to be sent back. It should ship out this week I hope. I have an older 14Gxp 10 Gb drive that refuses to die. Wish they where still that way.

I am now just dealing with maxtor because they have an excellent RMA dept.

I just got my replacement 60GXP this morning (I sent back a 45GB 75GXP). It actually came much quicker than I anticipated. They sent it overnight air or something.

Doesnt sound good Mitzi! Stay on their case!

If you make an annoyance of yourself then they should sort you out a drive in order to keep their phonelines clear!
Stay on the phone and be a really annoying [evil grin] :)

Go for it!
